Junior Golf
The WEGC Junior Program provides an environment of support
and encouragement to help your children’s love of golf to grow and flourish.
The program focuses on providing an educational foundation to help juniors
learn swing fundamentals, rules of the game, and course etiquette. The program
accommodates children of various ages and abilities, all in the name of FUN!
The White Eagle Junior Golf Program grew tremendously over
the past few years and we look to continue with that success we have enjoyed in
the past. Our staff, golf committee, and parental volunteers are dedicated to
helping each participant reach his or her potential on the course. White Eagle
offers a variety of Junior Golf options depending on the age and skill level of
the players.
-
Little Eaglets – Designed specifically
for golfers 6 years old and younger. Little Eaglets focuses heavily on fun, but
also on teaching the fundamentals. These sessions take place weekly on the
range or putting green, graduating to limited on-course time when the players
are ready.
- Spring Kick off Clinics – Held Tuesdays
and Thursdays in April and May. Focused on preparing juniors for the summer
program.
- Summer Instructional Clinics – Held on
Tuesdays from June through August. Class format changes each week to help
juniors cover all aspects of the game.
- On-Course Play Days – Exclusively on
Thursday mornings, the on-course play days give juniors a chance to test their
skills on the course. Juniors can play either 4, 6, 9 or 18 holes depending on
their skill level (and attention span!). For the younger ones, parents have the
opportunity to walk along with their child and see their progress first-hand.
Older kids are expected to make their own tee times.
- PGA Junior League – The PGA Junior League
is a national organization with more than 70,000 kids participating nationwide.
Players participate in two-person 9 hole scramble event with two age brackets
(13 and under, 17 and under), complete with uniforms! All PGA Junior League
matches take place weekly at White Eagle throughout the summer competing
against other kids in our program. We encourage parents to follow along on the
course and watch their children during these matches.
- Junior West District – For older juniors
looking to play serious competitive golf, White Eagle participates in the West
District league. Participants will travel to other Chicago area clubs and
compete in stroke play tournaments (similar to IJGA and high school golf).
- Junior Championship – Each year the club
hosts a junior championship tournament, flighted and grouped by skill level.
Players can choose to compete in either the 4, 6, 9 or 18 hole tournament
level.
- Parent / Child Championship – Why should
the juniors have all the fun? Parents and their juniors can participate in the
Parent / Child Championship as a team. Again, this event is grouped by skill
level and competitiveness to make sure that everyone enjoys a good time.
At the end of each season, White Eagle junior golfers and
their families can attend the Junior Golf Banquet. This event gives the staff
the opportunity to recognize the great progress made by the kids throughout the
summer. Juniors love this event because of the prize giveaways and food.
White Eagle Junior Golfers on High School Teams
Due in large part to the success of White Eagle's junior golf programming, many of our member's children compete on their local high school team. White Eagle juniors play on both the boys and girls Varsity and Junior Varsity golf teams at:
- Waubonsie Valley High School
- Neuqua Valley High School
- Benet Academy
- Metea Valley High School
Over the past few seasons, more than 20 boys and 15 girls from White Eagle Golf Club played on their high school golf teams. Some of these golfers earned high level accolades including All-Conference, All-Region and All-State designations. While only a White Eagle junior golfers went on to play Varsity golf at college, all of them developed a life-long love of golf and friendly competition.
